This type of collar was originally designed for hunting dogs but has become popular for any off leash working or active dog. The center ring adds flexibility to the collar and creates a pivot point that, when worn correctly, will allow the collar to bend and flip over the dogs head if it gets snagged on something and the dog tries to back out.
